Fundraise for Southlake

Meet Jennifer:In 2010, Southlake MRI technologist, Jennifer V., a mother of three young children, found a golf ball-sized lump in her breast. With the use of MRI, doctors confirmed that even though the tumor was half the size of Jennifer’s breast, it had been caught before it spread to other areas. One month after her diagnosis, Jennifer had a double mastectomy, and she returned to work a short time later.

Meet Lorie: For almost two years, Lorie S. experienced a painful buildup of fluid in her abdomen caused by several cancerous tumors. She made weekly trips to Southlake’s Interventional Radiology Suite to receive a minimally invasive procedure called paracentesis. At each visit, as much as eight litres of fluid was drained from Lorie’s abdomen, bringing immediate relief and allowing her to move around without pain.

Thanks to the technology and expertise available at Southlake, Jennifer is a cancer survivor and Lorie can play with her grandchildren.

Their stories are the ones we celebrate. But for others, their stories are much different.

That’s why we’ve made redevelopment of our Diagnostic Imaging services a top priority.

In April 2012, Southlake Foundation launched the Images for Life campaign to bring the best in Diagnostic Imaging technology to Southlake. Thanks to the incredible support from our community, and volunteers, we are closing in on our goal of $16 million. The first phase of the campaign funded a new Interventional Radiology Suite that opened its doors in 2012. Outfitted with the latest technology, it has brought 21st century, minimally-invasive diagnostics and treatment to our community and is allowing our healthcare team to perform 2000 life-saving procedures annually.
