Established in 1980 at arm’s length from the Hospital and with an independent Board of Directors, the Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation is “in the business of generating, safeguarding and growing revenue, relationships and resources to advance Southlake.”
As Canadians we have come to expect that the healthcare we receive, wherever we live in this country, is at the highest standard and that governments have sole responsibility for ensuring that we all have access to healthcare in this country. The practical reality is that governments fund only a portion of hospital needs. As surprising as it sounds, all across Ontario communities contribute to the purchase of mobile x-ray units, blanket warmers, sleeping chairs, ventilators, CADD pumps, even CT scanners. Continuing education for staff and physicians, program expansions and hospital capital projects are also largely supported by community contributions.
Since its inception, the Southlake Foundation has worked with members of the community to raise millions of dollars for medical equipment, capital projects, patient programs and staff education, all for the goal of creating a hospital that meets the expectation of excellent outcomes for our family members, friends and neighbours.
At Southlake, we are committed to creating an environment in which our patients can have the confidence of expert care delivered by a compassionate team who truly puts the patient first. A lofty goal perhaps, but one to which our commitment is unwavering.
Our primary commitment is to steward the funds entrusted to us by our donors, and ensure that they are put to best use in the Hospital. As one of the founding members of Imagine Canada’s Ethical Code Program, we are committed to transparency and accountability, so that our donors can continue to be confident that their dollars are well invested. We are proud to note that we continue to maintain low administrative costs, with a three year average cost per dollar raised of 22 cents, well below the industry average of 35 cents. And it’s important to be aware that every dollar stays in our community to purchase the life-saving equipment and build the programs that our community needs and deserves.
Our sincere appreciation to the generous donors who share our vision. It is through your support that we can improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of patients and their families every day.
